Three Mansfield English Majors Present at Conferences

MANSFIELD, PA— Mansfield University English majors Jessica Lowman and Josh Magnotta presented their work at the English Association of Pennsylvania State Universities’ (EAPSU) 2018 Conference, “The Body Electric,” held at Lock Haven University on March 23.(L-R) Jessica Lowman, Josh Magnotta, Adam Setzer

Adam Setzer presented at the Sigma Tau Delta International Convention, “Seeking Freedom,” held in Cincinnati, OH March 21-24.

Lowman read her paper, “Mirror Mirror on the Wall: Orsino’s Vanity in Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night.” Magnotta read two of his own fiction(L-R) Josh Magnotta, Professor Lilace Guignard, Jessica Lowman pieces, a short piece titled “Tamora, First of Her Name, Queen of the Goths, Killer of Enemies, Sharper of Minds,” along with a section from a novel he is writing, titled “A Sweet, Soft Glow.”

“It was an honor to represent Mansfield University at the conference,” Lowman said. “I gained a lot of helpful criticism from my panel discussion that I plan on using to improve my work.” Magnotta said that he had a lot of fun at EAPSU, and he wishes that he’d gone to a conference sooner!

Setzer presented his piece of short fiction, “When You Rain, You Pour” in Cincinnati. He is the president of Mansfield’s Mu Xi chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, an honors fraternity for English majors.(L-R) Adam Setzer, Rachel Roupp '17, Courtney Mauck '15, Torrin Mauck.

At the conference, Setzer spent time with recent MU English graduates, Rachel Roupp ’17 and Courtney Mauck ’15, both former MU chapter presidents of Sigma Tau Delta.

They heard a variety of other members’ presentations, roundtable discussions, and even attended a few slam poetry events.
