MANSFIELD, PA— The Mansfield University Art and Design Guild will host its third annual “Voiceless Auction” to benefit the Animal Care Sanctuary on Saturday, April 21, 6-8 p.m. at the Train Station Brewery, a part of the Wellsboro House Restaurant & Brewery, 34 Charleston Street.
The event was first created in 2016 by Sarah Smelts, who is also on board for assisting the Art and Design Guild for this year’s auction. A new face to this year’s event and the face behind the organization and success of the auction is Noel Ericson as well as the entire Art and Design Guild. Ericson is a senior Graphic Design major at Mansfield University and the president of the Art and Design Guild.
Several Art students have refurbished wooden chairs from old classrooms of students from the past, sculpting and painting them into functional art, which will be auctioned off.
Assistant Professor Martha Campbell and Associate Professor Michelle Lockwood serve as co-advisors to the Guild and have consistently reminded guild members about their obligation to perform community service. For the first auction three years ago Campbell suggested working with a Mansfield alumna Sara Hamburger, who is the director of Canine Care and Behavior with the Animal Care Sanctuary in East Smithfield who holds a Masters in Art Education.
The Wellsboro House Restaurant and Brewery is providing the venue at their newly remodeled Train Station which serves as their brewery and MU graduate Houston Baker will be the featured local musician for the evening. His music is mainly acoustic and is well known around the Mansfield area.
There also will be also refreshments, and 50/50 raffles of handmade ceramic sculptures from local artists and many more items donated by community members who believe in the work of The Animal Care Sanctuary!
