MANSFIELD, PA\u2014<\/strong> The Mansfield University Psychology Department and the MU chapter of Psi Chi, the International Honor Society in Psychology, are holding a \u201cSpread the Word to End the Word\u201d event on Wednesday, March 2.\"Spread<\/a>Spread the Word to End the Word is an ongoing effort by Special Olympics, Best Buddies and their supporters to raise peoples\u2019 awareness of the derogatory use of the \u201cR-Word\u201d (retard or retarded) and its negative effects on people with intellectual disabilities, as well as their families and friends.<\/p>\n

This campaign is about more than just raising awareness of the R-word; it is also about changing attitudes of segregation and hate, to attitudes of acceptance and respect.<\/p>\n

Members of the MU community can pledge to show respect from 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in lower Manser Hall.<\/p>\n
