MANSFIELD, PA\u2014<\/strong> The Mansfield University Saxophone Quartet won the Pennsylvania round of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Chamber Music competition held at Indiana University of Pennsylvania on November 5.\u00a0 \"(L-R)<\/a>Lance Welch, soprano saxophone (Music Performance \u201918), Mikaela Brown, alto saxophone (Music Education, math minor, \u201918), Richard Pollock, tenor saxophone (Math Ed, Pure Math, Music, \u201918), and Jeremy Brokos, baritone saxophone (Math Ed, \u201917) have played together for four years. The Mansfield Quartet has been invited to perform at the US Navy Band International Saxophone Symposium each of those years.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis multi-talented group not only plays some of the most difficult quartet literature, but they also compose and arrange for themselves,\u201d Professor of Saxophone Joe Murphy said.\u00a0 \u201cThey also participate in many ensembles including Concert Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, two have soloed with the Symphony Orchestra, Brass Band, Mountie Sound Machine, Marching Band, Spring Musical Pit Orchestra, and Prism performances.\u201d<\/p>\n

The next level of the competition takes place at West Virginia University in Morgantown on January 7.\u00a0 The MU Quartet will be competing against state winners from Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont and West Virginia.<\/p>\n
