MANSFIELD, PA – Eight criminal justice administration students from Mansfield University listened to oral arguments made in two separate cases before the United States Supreme Court on Tuesday, November 6, 2018.\u00a0 The first case, Bucklew v Precythe<\/em>, was a death penalty case.\u00a0 The Court heard arguments about whether an inmate with a rare and severe medical condition must provide an alternate means of execution, if the medical condition would cause unconstitutional pain and suffering under the state\u2019s normal method of execution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After both hearings concluded, the group met with Officers\nSmith and Marshall from the Supreme Court of the US Police Department (SCUS\nPolice).\u00a0 The officers provided\ninformation on the requirements, duties, and responsibilities of the SCUS\nPolice, as well as tips on how students can prepare for successful interviews\nand careers with the department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is the second consecutive year Mansfield students\nattended hearings at the U.S. Supreme Court.\u00a0\nSCUS Police Officer Smith has been instrumental in helping plan both\nvisits.\u00a0 The trips were sponsored by\nLambda Alpha Epsilon (LAE), the professional fraternity in criminal\njustice.\u00a0 Attending the 2018 visit were students\nSteven Hook, Harrison Ledda, Alexis Tedesco, Sahara Randall, Zachary Sedun,\nTamara St. Clair, James Natali, and Alex Vonweinstein.\u00a0 CJA Department Chair Dr. Jeremy Olson and his\nwife Dr. Rebecca Sarver helped coordinate the trip and chaperoned the students.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
