MANSFIELD, PA\u2014<\/strong>\u00a0Mansfield University celebrated its 155th fall commencement on Saturday, December 14, at Decker Gymnasium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Charles Patterson, President of Mansfield University, opened his remarks by congratulating the graduating class on their academic success. Patterson then praised the hard work and dedication of the faculty. \u201cCollectively, they are the heart and soul of this University.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEach graduate will have his or her own story about a professor\nwhose inspiration and interest that influenced that student\u2019s success, not only\nin college, but in ways that will influence them more as the future unfolds,\u201d\nPatterson said. \u201cCaring faculty, committed to the success of students, are a\nhallmark of Mansfield University.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Lee Wright, professor emeritus of Communication, was the\nkeynote speaker. Wright, a 1982 graduate of Mansfield, served at the university\nfor 25 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMy overall message to you today is, even as you are graduating, don\u2019t stop learning and growing,\u201d Wright said to the graduating class. He urged them to continue their growth and to be intellectually curious, and socially and interpersonally curious. \u201cBy being intellectually curious, and socially and interpersonally curious, you can grow by learning new things, give help to others and yourself through social involvement, and make new friendships through interpersonal interaction.\u201d Dr. Wright concluded, \u201cToday as you cross the stage, you\u2019ll be stepping into the shoes for the walk of the rest of your life. Continue to learn. Therefore, to this graduating class of 2019, I say once a Mountie, always a Mountie, and the best of luck to all of you. Be kind to one another.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also, during Commencement, Chelsea Thomas \u201820 represented the\nCouncil of Trustees and introduced Dr. Wright, President Bryan Lane \u201988 represented\nthe Alumni Association, and President Seungho Lee \u201920 represented the Student\nGovernment Association.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nMountaineer Brass Band, conducted by Dr. Nathan Rinnert, provided musical\naccompaniment for the event. Music major Ms. Molly Cerep was soloist.\u00a0\nCampus Minister Ms. Mara Wilcox delivered the invocation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
