Qualified high school\nstudents at more than 40 partner school districts in Pennsylvania can now earn tuition-free\ncollege credits<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MANSFIELD, Pa. – Mansfield University announced that its rapidly growing Early Start Program will be tuition free for Pennsylvania residents beginning in Fall 2021, thanks to the generous contributions of two area banks:\u00a0 First Citizens Community Bank and Citizens and Northern (C&N) Bank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are very fortunate to have such supportive community\npartners as First Citizens and C&N Bank in our region,\u201d said Dr. John M.\nUlrich, Mansfield\u2019s provost and vice president for academic affairs.\u00a0 \u201cOur community partners are strongly\ncommitted, as is our university, to providing affordable access to higher\neducation for high school students here in the Northern Tier and elsewhere in\nour Commonwealth.\u00a0 Together, we can make\nsure students have an opportunity to get an early start on their college\neducation while still in high school.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First Citizens committed $50,000 and C&N $20,000 to support the Early Start Program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Ulrich also announced that high school seniors who enroll in Mansfield\u2019s Early Start Program during the Fall or Spring semester of their senior year will automatically receive general admission to the university.\u00a0 Certain academic degree programs may require additional application materials for consideration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mansfield\u2019s Early Start Program (ESP) enables qualified high\nschool students to enroll in courses taught by Mansfield University faculty\u2014via\nface-to-face or online instruction\u2014and earn college credits while still in high\nschool.\u00a0 The program has grown\ndramatically since its inception in 2018.\u00a0\nStarting with just five school district partners and 32 enrolled high\nschool students, the university now has agreements with more than 40 school\ndistrict partners, and during the Spring 2021 semester, the university enrolled\nmore than 200 high school students.\u00a0\nWhile the university was already providing a tuition discount to its ESP\nstudents, the generous support from First Citizens Community Bank and C&N Bank\nwill now subsidize the rest of the fee so there will be no tuition cost to the\nstudent. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, the university has recently added another ESP\noption for students in the form of a concurrent enrollment pilot program,\nenabling high school students to take Mansfield University courses taught by\nqualified high school teachers on site in their high school.\u00a0 The high school teachers must first be\napproved by the relevant Mansfield University faculty.\u00a0 Currently, the university has concurrent\nenrollment agreements in place with a limited set of districts in the Northern\nTier, including Athens, Northern Tioga, Southern Tioga, Troy, and Wellsboro. Students\nenrolled in such concurrent enrollment courses will also have their tuition\nsubsidized, so there will be no tuition cost to the students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur goal is to strengthen the capacity of our communities\nto support tomorrows leaders through educational opportunities,\u201d noted Randall\nE. Black, President and CEO. \u201cThe EITC program allows us to invest in programs\nthat give back. That\u2019s as good as it gets.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It all starts with our youth \u2013 doing our part to provide them with\nvaluable opportunities to learn and grow that will lead to a brighter future\nfor all of us,\u201d said Tom Rudy, Jr., C&N\u2019s Chief Delivery Officer &\nRegion President.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
