Graduating from a certified Act 120 academy is required to become a\nmunicipal police officer in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. This year&#8217;s class\nreceived an additional 100 hours of training, where cadets received credentials\nto enhance their workforce development skills within the area of public safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe successful completion of this\nrigorous academy shows the perseverance of this class of cadets and their commitment\nto a life of service,\u201d said Dr. Bashar Hanna, interim president of Mansfield\nUniversity. \u201cCongratulations to the 2021 class of Municipal Police Academy\ngraduates and best wishes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\nfollowing cadets were members of the 2021 graduating class and are now eligible\nto be certified as municipal police officers in Pennsylvania:\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Brandon S.\n     Eberly, Denver, Pa.<\/li><li>Jacob Marvin\n     Huling, Jersey Shore, Pa.<\/li><li>Nathaniel\n     Kendall, Williamsport, Pa.<\/li><li>Stephen\n     Thomas Kutches, Bellefonte, Pa.<\/li><li>Trevor Lee\n     Lachat, Bellefonte, Pa.<\/li><li>Cassandra\n     Jean Lageman, State College, Pa.<\/li><li>Christopher\n     Logue, Jersey Shore, Pa.<\/li><li>Jared\n     Mahosky, Jersey Shore, Pa.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cassandra Lageman received The Christine Shegan Top Academic Award and Jacob Hulling received The James Fox Top Driver Award. Stephen Kutches was awarded The Barbara Butcher Top Physical Fitness Award and The Keith Graver Top Firearms Award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mansfield\nUniversity Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, John Ulrich,\ndelivered opening remarks and Tioga County Commissioner Roger Bunn provided the\naddress to the graduates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\ncertificates were presented by Director of the M.U. Public Safety Training\nInstitute (MUPSTI) and Mansfield University Chief of Police, Scott Henry, and\nAssociate Provost, Dr. Josh Battin. Several law enforcement members from across\nthe region also presented the certificates to the cadets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;This\nclass was excellent in many ways. The Grade Point Average was 94.2%, and the\nmandated requirement is the cadets pass the course with an 80% GPA,\u201d explained Chief\nHenry. &#8220;With the education and training provided to them here at\nMansfield, our graduates are now able to enter the law enforcement career field\nwith proper and sufficient knowledge to be not only an asset to the departments\nthey will serve in, but also to the communities in which they will serve and\nreside in.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\nMansfield University Police Academy was certified in 1977 and graduated its\nfirst class in 1978.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\ncurriculum includes criminal law and investigation, vehicle code, accident\ninvestigation, first aid and CPR, operation of patrol vehicles, crisis\nmanagement, defensive tactics, and firearms.
