Scholarship makes Mansfield\u2019s Academy tuition the most affordable in the Commonwealth<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

MANSFIELD,\nPa. \u2013 The Mansfield University Act 120 Municipal Police Academy will now\nguarantee a minimum scholarship of $2,500 to every cadet thanks to external\nfunding provided to the MU Public Safety Training Institute (MUPSTI). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nMunicipal Police Academy is a 26-week course required to become a municipal\npolice officer in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Established in 1977,\nMansfield University\u2019s Academy is one of only 16 municipal police academies\nacross Pennsylvania certified by the Municipal Police Officers\u2019 Education and\nTraining Commission (MPOETC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Applications\nare currently being accepted for the next full-time class, which begins on May\n23, 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMansfield\nUniversity\u2019s Municipal Police Academy has gained a reputation across the\nCommonwealth as a center of top-notch, innovative training for officers who\nserve our communities,\u201d said Dr. Bashar Hanna, interim president of Mansfield\nUniversity. \u201cBy significantly lowering the cost of attendance to cadets\ntraining at the Academy, a critical workforce need is now more accessible to individuals\ninterested in pursuing a career in law enforcement.\u201d

\nTuition for the\nAcademy is now $3,000 per cadet after the guaranteed minimum $2,500 scholarship\nfrom MUPSTI is applied. On-campus housing and meal plans are available for an\nadditional cost.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additional\nscholarship opportunities are available to reduce the cost of attendance for\ncadets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe\nMansfield University Public Safety Training Institute will provide financial\nassistance to every cadet, making it the most affordable option to earn the Act\n120 Municipal Police certification in the Commonwealth,\u201d explained MUPSTI\nDirector Scott Henry. \u201cIt is our hope that these scholarships will attract\nadditional high-character individuals interested in the policing profession who\nwill fill the many vacancies the Commonwealth is experiencing among its police\nranks.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because of\nthe MU Police Academy\u2019s exceptional reputation and its network of partners,\ngraduates of Mansfield\u2019s Academy enjoy a 95% job placement rate upon completion\nof the program. Academy graduates consistently rank among the top in\nPennsylvania police academies in GPA and state certification examination scores.\nThese scores, combined with the many certifications and micro-credentials that\na MU Police Academy graduate receives, provide the foundation that law enforcement\nagencies seek and desire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Police\nAcademy is located at Mansfield University\u2019s Doane Center, which features a\ndedicated classroom and virtual reality training room. Mansfield was the first\nacademy in the Commonwealth to include state-of-the-art virtual reality training\nfor cadets. The immersive VR experience allows cadets to take the knowledge\nlearned in the classroom and immediately apply it to a variety of life-like\nscenarios.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Academy\ninstructor cadre includes active and retired Pennsylvania State Police and\nmunicipal police, attorneys, educators, Magistrates, and a Common Pleas Judge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nMansfield University Police Academy is part of the MU Public Safety Training\nInstitute (MUPSTI), a regional training center providing initial and continuing\nprofessional education for criminal justice practitioners, first responders,\npublic safety professionals, and the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through\nMUPSTI, cadets have the opportunity to gain more than 100 additional hours of\ntraining and certification during the academy training period at no additional\ncost, including the University\u2019s nationally certified Emergency Medical\nTechnician (EMT) course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
