MANSFIELD, PA (10\/06\/2022) Auditor General\n Timothy L. DeFoor met with students from Mansfield, a Commonwealth \nUniversity, on Tuesday, Oct. 4, to highlight career and internship \nopportunities within his department, and encourage students to learn how\n to ‘Be Money Smart.’<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Today’s college students are the auditors\n of the future, and by working together we can create a more financially\n secure and successful commonwealth,” DeFoor said. “Our department is \ncurrently looking to fill a number of entry-level auditor\n positions, and we are getting ready to open the application process for\n our winter and spring internship program. That is why it’s so important\n for us to visit these universities and talk to students about what our \ndepartment does. We really want individuals who have a passion for \naccounting and public service to join our team.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to Mansfield, the Auditor General has also visited the other Commonwealth University campuses at Bloomsburg and Lock Haven, along with other schools in PASSHE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Thank you to Auditor General\n DeFoor for visiting the Commonwealth University-Mansfield campus,” said\n Bashar W. Hanna, Commonwealth University president. “Opportunities to \ngain experience in professional fields and make valuable connections are\n central to our students’ success. I’m grateful for the Auditor General’s\n partnership in preparing students for the future by equipping them with\n financial literacy education and access to professional experiences and\n opportunities.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to recruiting young \nindividuals to work for the department, DeFoor is talking with students \nabout the importance of financial literacy. DeFoor’s office launched the\n ‘Be Money Smart’ financial literacy initiative in November 2021 to \nemphasize the need for financial literacy in Pennsylvania and highlight \nresources available for all residents across the commonwealth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Knowing\n how to be smart with your money is one of the most important lessons a \nyoung person can learn to achieve future financial success,” DeFoor \nsaid. “It is never too early to start thinking about how money works. \nIt’s essential that we work together to give Pennsylvanians the tools to\n help them on their journey to financial independence.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
