Mansfield University Police Officer Marena Geiser<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Can a television\nprogram influence someone\u2019s career later in life? For Marena Geiser, a\nMansfield University police officer, a steady diet of \u201cLaw and Order\u201d just\nmight have led her into her career in law enforcement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Growing up on a dairy farm in Wellsboro, no one in Geiser\u2019s family worked in law enforcement or was in the military.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMy inspiration in life\nhas always been my mom,\u201d says Geiser. \u201cThere are not enough words to express\nwhat she has done for me. She worked incredibly hard to give me the best life\nshe could. She taught me to be the kind, caring person that I am. Really all\nthe women in my life are kind women who always believed they could do anything\na man could do and made sure I knew it as well.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Geiser, who has been on the\nMansfield University police force for a year and a half, became an officer in 2020\nafter graduating from the Mansfield Police Academy. The job is not without its\nchallenges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI am a smaller female, so I get\nunderestimated,\u201d Geiser says. \u201cAll other obstacles come and go and I just learn\nto work with what I have. This is my job, and I will always do what I believe\nis right.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even though the Mansfield campus\ncommunity is small, there are still stresses to deal with each day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI have an amazing group of people\nI work with who help me when needed,\u201d says Geiser. \u201cAlong with a husband, Chad\nBoyce, who is also an officer, he helps me talk out any difficulties I went\nthrough on a shift. It is important for me to do my best with the knowledge I\nhave and to continue learning from my mistakes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What has been the most\nrewarding aspect of working as a police officer?\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cInteracting with the community is\nso great,\u201d Geiser says. \u201cI love when little girls see me working as an officer.\nThere is not a lot of us, especially in this area so it makes me incredibly\nhappy and fulfilled when I see the look of joy on their faces of seeing a women\nofficer. I always wonder if I would have believed in myself sooner to do this\njob had I seen a female officer growing up. I just hope I am showing them that\nit is a possible career for them as well.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Geiser hopes more women choose law\nenforcement as a career choice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEvery department I have\nworked for has not treated me any different for being a woman. Having a female\nofficer is a positive for a department and most officers are aware of that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through it all, Geiser\nfinds it great that she has impressed members of her family with her career\nchoice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMy family is incredibly\nproud of me. My uncles all think it is the coolest thing I have done yet. My\nmother loves that I do what I do but I know it causes her a lot of worry.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
