MANSFIELD, PA (04\/11\/2023) Thanks once again to a donation from First Citizens Community Bank (FCCB), the Early College program (formerly known as the Early Start Program) of Commonwealth University-Mansfield has remained tuition-free for Pennsylvania public high school students this academic year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The donation is the third year that \nFirst Citizens has supported the Early College Program, contributing \n$55,000 this year to the program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We are very thankful to \nFirst Citizens Community Bank for the support of the Early College \nProgram,” said Bashar W. Hanna, president of Commonwealth University. \n“The continued support they have provided has been vital to allow \nCommonwealth University-Mansfield to give students in the Northern Tier \nan affordable, early start to their college education.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\n Early College Program enables qualified high school students to enroll \nin courses taught by Mansfield University faculty-via face-to-face or \nonline instruction-and earn college credits while still in high school. \nThanks to support from community organizations like First Citizens, the \nEarly College Program has been tuition free for Pennsylvania public \nschool students since Fall 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Programs like Early \nCollege can help remove financial barriers for students who may not have\n the resources to pursue higher education,” noted FCCB President & \nCEO, Randall Black. “Giving back in this way can have powerful and \nfar-reaching impacts on students and our communities, creating a more \nequitable and prosperous future for all. We are very pleased to support a\n program that provides opportunities to help students achieve their \nacademic and career goals and to support the systems of higher education\n in our communities.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beginning with five agreements in \n2018, the Early College Program has grown to more than 50 partnerships \nwith public school districts and private schools throughout Pennsylvania\n and in the southern tier of New York.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students who \nsuccessfully complete an Early College course are granted automatic \ngeneral acceptance for full-time enrollment at Commonwealth University. \nSpecific academic degree programs may require additional application \nmaterials for consideration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to the standard \nEarly College courses taught by Mansfield faculty, course delivery is \navailable at participating schools through the Concurrent Enrollment \npilot program, enabling high school students to take Mansfield courses \ntaught by qualified high school teachers on-site in their high school. \nThe relevant university faculty must first approve the high school \nteachers providing instruction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The university currently \nhas Concurrent Enrollment agreements in place with a set of districts in\n the Northern Tier, including Athens, Northern Tioga, Southern Tioga, \nTroy, and Wellsboro.
