MANSFIELD, PA<\/b>-Mansfield University will present Les Mis\u00e9rables <\/i>on <\/i>March 6-9 at Straughn Hall.\"Les<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

The musical based on the novel of the same name by French poet and novelist Victor Hugo, Les Mis\u00e9rables <\/i>is now the world\u2019s longest-running musical, seen by over 65 million people in 42 countries. The film version of the play, released in 2012, was nominated for 11 Academy Awards, winning three.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Set in early 19th-century France, it is the story of Jean Valjean, a French peasant, and his quest for redemption after serving 19 years in jail for having stolen a loaf of bread for his starving sister’s child. Valjean decides to break his parole and start his life anew after a kindly bishop inspires him by a tremendous act of mercy, but he is relentlessly tracked down by a police inspector named Javert. Along the way, Valjean and a slew of characters are swept into a revolutionary period in France, where a group of young idealists make their last stand at a street barricade.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Les Mis\u00e9rables <\/i>is directed by David Deitz, a 1974 Mansfield graduate, music direction is by Professor Sheryl Monkelien and 1993 MU graduate Peter Davis is technical director.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Performances will be Thursday, March 6, Friday, March 7 and Saturday, March 8 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, March 9 at 2:30 p.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors and students. They can be purchased online<\/a> or at the door one hour before performances. MU students with valid ID will be admitted free.<\/strong><\/p>\n
