MANSFIELD, PA\u2014<\/strong> More than 300 Mansfield University students, along with staff and faculty, were out in force on Saturday, April 18 for \u201cThe Big Event,\u201d a day-long community service project.\"Participants<\/a>\u201cThis is such an impressive gathering of young men and women who are ready to go out and make a change in some aspect of our community today,\u201d MU President Fran Hendricks told the students before they headed out on their assignments. \u201cWhether its cleaning something up, fixing something or helping someone in some way, today you will make a change in someone else\u2019s life and make a contribution to our community.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

The volunteers completed projects in the Mansfield and Wellsboro area including cleaning streets and trails, parks, churches and along highways.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"The<\/a>They also performed maintenance to get the fields ready for Mansfield Little League\u2019s upcoming season, helped out at the Mansfield Food Pantry, HAVEN of Tioga County and Animal Care Sanctuary. Volunteers also packed the clothing donated to the Collection Collaboration Campaign for El Salvador and Tioga County, among other projects.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cOur goal is to complete one thousand hours of community service today,\u201d Frank Crofchick, MU Community Conduct officer and Service coordinator and Big Event coordinator,\u201d said. \u201cI think today\u2019s turnout shows how committed our students are to community \"The<\/a>service. It\u2019s a great day to be a Mountie.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

At the end of the day, the goal was exceeded. “Mansfield University students completed 1,103.5 hours of community service today,” Crofchick reported.\u00a0 “I am beyond proud of every single Mountie that came out today.”<\/strong><\/p>\n

In addition to the students, Crofchick credits the Student Government Association (SGA), his co-workers and student-workers in the Student Affairs and Enrollment Management Division and the Community Service Club for making \u201cThe Big Event\u201d a success.<\/strong><\/p>\n
