MANSFIELD, PA\u2014<\/strong> A group of junior and senior chemistry students and faculty from Mansfield University attended the Scholes Lecture and Poster Session at Alfred University, NY on April 28.\"MU<\/a>The April meeting of the Corning Section of the American Chemical Society is the highlight monthly meeting of the year, combining student research presentations, Outstanding Senior Awards and a nationally recognized speaker along with a banquet.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The evening began with the poster session showcasing research efforts by undergraduates from colleges and universities in the Corning Section, including Mansfield University, Elmira College and Alfred University.<\/strong>\"Assistant<\/a><\/p>\n

Two of the MU students presented their work. Joe Mandeville, a junior from Honesdale, PA, under the supervision of Assistant Professor Michele Conrad, showcased his research on gunshot residue using electrochemical methods. Marc Kiessling, a senior from Mansfield, PA, whose poster was selected as the best of the session, highlighted his work on the spectroscopy of holmium ions in solution. He worked under the direction of Professor Scott A. Davis.<\/strong><\/p>\n

After the banquet, seniors from the colleges and universities were\"Professor<\/a> recognized as the outstanding chemistry graduates from their schools.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kiessling was recognized during the ceremony as the awardee from Mansfield University and the recipient of a book award. Following the awards ceremony, the students heard from Dr. Suzanne Quillen Lomax, Organic Chemist in the Scientific Research Department of the National Gallery of Art, who gave the invited Scholes Lecture, \u201cThe Application of Chemistry to the Examination of Works of Art.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n
