MANSFIELD, PA\u2014<\/strong> Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) universities are a good investment. That\u2019s what a Commonwealth of Pennsylvania study for the fiscal year 2013-2014 shows.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

For every dollar invested by the Commonwealth into PASSHE universities, $11 is produced. The System has an employment impact of $2.3 billion through the 62,000 jobs supported across Pennsylvania.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Locally, each dollar invested in Mansfield University yields a return of $6.69 in economic impact which equates to a total economic impact of close to $112 million annually.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The study was done by the Commonwealth for the 2013-2014 fiscal year. The appropriation to MU for this period was $16,702,905.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Also for that year, 2,752 students were enrolled, more than 250 of them from Tioga and Bradford Counties.<\/strong><\/p>\n

More than 2,500 MU alumni live in Tioga County.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Of the 20,300 total people employed in Tioga County, 415 were employed by MU and live in the county.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Three hundred and seventy five live within 25 miles of MU.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The university\u2019s employment impact off campus totals about 1,482 jobs.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The total direct economic impact of MU on the Commonwealth was $70,189,054, represented by institutional spending, faculty\/staff spending, student spending and capital expenditures.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThese figures show Mansfield University\u2019s economic vitality in our region,\u201d MU President Fran Hendricks said. \u201cAdd to this the thousands of volunteer hours faculty, staff and students contribute to the region, along with our academic, arts and athletic offerings and it\u2019s clear that Mansfield University is an active and vital part of our region.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n
