MANSFIELD, PA\u2014Mansfield University hosted a table top exercise with the North Central Task Force on July 20 to familiarize local emergency responders with assets offered regionally.\"NC<\/a>The purpose of the North Central Task Force, which encompasses Potter, Tioga, Bradford, Sullivan, Lycoming, Clinton, and Union Counties, is to reduce vulnerability of people in the region. The Task Force is one of nine regional task forces in Pennsylvania and is primarily funded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security through the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA).<\/strong><\/p>\n

The exercise presented a hypothetical scenario centered on the MU Campus. The scenario put forth many challenging situations to police, EMS, fire fighters and other first responders generating the need for regional help. Throughout the scenario different agencies spoke and explained how their department could play a major role based on the equipment and training their area has to offer.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cIt was an excellent opportunity for local responders to see what regional assets are available,\u201d Jim Welch. MU Environmental Safety and Health director, said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Approximately 60 people attended the exercise. Multiple agencies brought response vehicles which they then showed their equipment and how it could be of use during an emergency.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a great opportunity to see the regional emergency resources available,\u201d MU Safety Intern Molly Wood said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Members from the North Central Task Force attended and were available to answer any questions that arose. This event allowed local responders the opportunity to realize the potential of regional resources.<\/strong><\/p>\n
