MANSFIELD, PA\u2014<\/strong> High school juniors and seniors from all five Tioga County high schools will take part in Mansfield University\u2019s Environmental Education Day 2015 on Thursday, October 15, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Mill Cove Environmental Area<\/a>.\"EnvironED15\"<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

The students who are invited to the event will visit educational stations manned by MU Geosciences, Biology and Chemistry faculty and students, as well as Mill Cove volunteers, to learn about a variety of topics including geology, geographical mapping, unmanned aerial vehicles (drones), environmental science and others.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Students will also have the opportunity to meet with representatives from local industry and government, and Mansfield faculty and staff will also be on hand to discuss courses of study, career choices, and admissions and financial aid planning for college.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThis will be the first of what we hope to be an annual opportunity for us to connect upper-level high-school students with faculty, government, and industry to promote local environment-related careers and education,\u201d Lee Stocks, assistant professor of Geography and event coordinator, said. \u201cThe event will highlight the science education available at Mansfield University and provide experiential learning in various geoscience fields.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Environmental Education Day is funded by a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. It is supported by Mil Cove and the Mansfield University Institute of Science and the Environment.<\/strong><\/p>\n
