Organization for Veterans and Military Formed

MANSFIELD, PA— A new organization for veterans and military personnel has been formed at Mansfield University.

The Mansfield Military and Veteran’s Organization is open to all students, faculty and staff who have served or are serving in the military. The organization will hold regular meetings and has a Facebook group page that allows for the exchange of information and ideas.Officers for the new Mansfield Military and Veteran's Organization are (L-R)  Darren Barnard, vice president; Jesse Olson, president; Dustin Ackley, treasurer; Andrew Weiser, secretary.

Joshua Battin, assistant professor of Criminal Justice, and Dusty Zeyn, associate director for Residence Life, both veterans themselves, are serving as advisors.

“The transition from military life to student life can be challenging,” Battin said. “We want this organization to provide support and encouragement to our veterans and active military personnel.”

“It’s important for them to know they’re not alone and that their military experience is valuable,” Zeyn said. “Our organization lets them know that and gives them support and guidance to help them find success in this new phase of their lives.”

The first officers for the new organization are Jesse Olson (Galeton, PA), president; Darren Barnard (Loganton, PA), vice president; Dustin Ackley (Athens, PA), treasurer and Andrew Weiser (Herndon, PA), secretary.
