MANSFIELD, PA— The Cory Band, a 30-piece brass band from Wales, will perform in concert on Thursday, February 18, 8 p.m. in Steadman Theater. Mansfield will be the site of one of only six concerts the band will perform on their first U.S. tour in 40 years.
“The Mansfield University Music Department and MU Brass Band are proud to host this incredible band in conjunction with the Endless Mountain Music Festival’s annual Jazz Fest,” Nathan Rinnert, Music Department chair and MU Brass Band director, said.
The number one ranked brass band in the world for the past nine years, the Cory Band won both the 2015 Grand Champion Brass Band of Great Britain and the 2015 Brass in Concert Championship.
Formed in 1884, the history of this organization is rich with prominent instrumentalists and conductors, musical and artistic innovations, and awards and accolades. The current musical director, Philip Harper, continues the band’s focus on creating and performing new music for brass band.
This program will include a wide variety of musical styles, from British classics to jazz standards, movie themes and classical favorites. The theme of the concert is “A Space Odyssey” and will include the full 23-minute “The Four Elements” program the band utilized in the November, 2015 Brass in Concert championship.
