MANSFIELD, PA—Jeffrey Jacobsen, associate professor of Music at Mansfield University, has been named a quarterfinalist for the 2017 Music Educator Award, which is presented by The Recording Academy and the GRAMMY Foundation.
A total of 290 music teachers from 41 states have been announced as quarterfinalists. In total, more than 3,300 initial nominations were submitted from all 50 states.
The semifinalists for the award will be announced in September. The winner of the 2017 Music Educator Award will be honored at during GRAMMY Week next February.
The Music Educator Award was established to recognize current educators at all levels who have made a significant and lasting contribution to the field of music education and who demonstrate a commitment to the broader cause of maintaining music education in the schools.
Jacobsen is director of String Studies at MU. He conducts and is artistic director of the Mansfield University Symphony Orchestra. He also directs the MU Jazz Band.
In addition, Jacobsen is the founder and master teacher of the String Project at MU, which offers string instrument lessons to aspiring young musicians taught by Mansfield Music majors.
