Family and Friends/LUMA Weekend set for September 16-17

MANSFIELD, PA—Mansfield University will celebrate Family and Friends/LUMA Weekend on September 16-17 with a schedule full of concerts, athletic events and activities.Family Friends Weekend

On Friday, September 16 at 8 p.m., Think Pink Floyd, featuring 2004 Mansfield graduate Monique Canniere, will perform in concert at Straughn Hall. Doors will open at 7 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public.

Think Pink Floyd is a national touring tribute band that performs complete with a laser light show, high­ definition movie clips and props that are associated with the overall Pink Floyd concert experience. Canniere is a violinist and vocalist with the group.

On Saturday, October 10, a tail gate party will be held 1-6:30 p.m. in the area around Allen Hall. Activities will include carnival games, inflatables, Armed Forces challenge games, a student club and organization fair, food and live music.

The music will begin at 1 p.m. with the acapella group Kazual. That 90’s Band will take the stage at 2:15 p.m., followed by M80 at 3:45 p.m. Ryan Quinn, from season 10 of “The Voice” will perform at 5:15 p.m.

All Family and Friends events are free and open to the public. They are sponsored by the Office of Student Activities.

A historic day at Karl Van Norman Field will begin at 1:30 p.m. with the 15th anniversary celebration of the women’s soccer program. The Mountaineers will take on Pitt-Johnstown.

The 15th anniversary celebration will feature a pre-game tailgate for soccer alumni and friends of the program. For more information and to pre-register, go to gomounties.com

At 7:35 p.m., the MU football team, celebrating its 125th year, will take on the University of Pennsylvania for LUMA (Light Up Mansfield Again) 2016. Pre-game ceremonies will begin at 7 p.m. This is the Mountaineers season opener.
