MANSFIELD, PA—The Mansfield University Music Department will present the annual Fall Choral Collage on Sunday, October 30, at 2:30 p.m. in Steadman Theatre.
The concert is free and open to the public. Due to the popularity of this event, audience members are urged to arrive early.
The program, produced and conducted by Peggy Dettwiler, director of Choral Activities, will feature the Mansfield University Festival Chorus, Women’s Chorus, Men’s Chorus, Mansfieldians, Chamber Singers and the Concert Choir.
More than 150 singers will be involved, performing a wide variety of choral repertoire with works from the Renaissance through the 21st century including Gospel, Jazz, and Spiritual selections.
During the concert, Mansfield University will bestow its first Honorary Doctor of Music Degree upon renowned Broadway musical director Rob Fisher,
Fisher is an internationally recognized music director, conductor, pianist and leading figure in American music and musical theatre. The University is recognizing his numerous accomplishments and his outstanding record of excellence in the field of music, but also, his special relationship with the Music Department.
In 2012, Mr. Fisher led a gala performance of The Sound of Music in Carnegie Hall, where 32 Mansfield University students provided the nuns’ choruses. In 2015, he presented master classes with MU students and coached choral rehearsals with three MU choirs.
During the concert, Fisher will conduct his own arrangement of Bernstein’s House.
