MANSFIELD, PA— The Big Event, Mansfield University’s annual day-long community service project, will be held Saturday, April 22.Activities will begin at 10:30 a.m. on the Student Mall, where free t-shirts and snacks will be available to participants. Service projects will begin at 11 a.m.
Last year, more than 300 volunteers completed more than 1,300 hours of community service.
The volunteers completed projects in the Mansfield and Wellsboro area including cleaning streets and trails, parks, churches and along highways in the Mansfield area. They also performed maintenance to get the fields ready for Mansfield Little League’s upcoming season, helped out at the Mansfield Food Pantry, HAVEN of Tioga County and Animal Care Sanctuary, among other projects.
“Our goal this year is for 350 plus students, faculty and staff to volunteer their time to give back to the community,” Frank Crofchick, associate director of Student Life and Big Event coordinator, said. “We are going to shoot for 1,500 hours of service for this year’s event,”
The Big Event is coordinated by the Department of Student Life and Living in partnership with the Student Government Association (SGA) and the Community Service Club.
