Andrea Harris Receives National Honor

MANSFIELD, PA— Andrea Harris, professor of English at Mansfield University, was awarded the Elaine W. HughesAndrea Harris Outstanding Chapter Sponsor by the Sigma Tau Delta International English Honor Society at organization’s annual convention in Louisville, KY on April 1.

The honor recognize a sponsor who fosters a spirit of scholarly exchange in their local chapter. Harris received a plaque and $500 for the Mansfield chapter, Sigma Tau Delta – Mu Xi.

Sigma Tau Delta has 880 active chapters around the world with 1,000 faculty sponsors. Nine thousand new members are inducted annually based on their GPA and their enthusiasm for the study of literature.

The MU chapter was founded in the 1978 by Professor Emeritus Bernard Koloski and, after a hiatus, was revived by Professor Emeritus Kristin Sanner in 2006. Since then, 82 new members have been inducted, many of whom have gone on to graduate school, teaching and publishing.

Over the past several years, the chapter raised $2,500 for the Dr. Kristin Sanner Memorial Space, to be located behind Retan Hall.  Sanner passed away in 2013. The space will be dedicated on May 4.
