MANSFIELD, PA— Mary Daly, associate professor of Social Work at Mansfield University, has been appointed to the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) Macro Social Work Curricular Guide Task Force. The task force is responsible for developing the specialized practice curricular guide for macro social work practice.
“I am honored to participate in the national Macro Social Work Curricular Guide Task Force to help create a teaching tool that can be shared with other colleges and universities,” Daly said. “When most people think about Social Work, the first thought is about direct practice with individuals and families. Macro practice social work is about the bigger picture to improve people’s lives in their communities. It include the areas of community organizing, development, fundraising and grant writing, economic development and public policy.”
Daly points out that many of things that the task force will be looking at are already in place at MU.
“In the Mansfield Social Work program, students learn how to be effective in advocating for public policy and taking action to change their communities,” she said. “This learning is infused throughout our curriculum but is the primary focus of a senior course in Communities and Organizations. Social Work students partner with an agency on a semester long project to increase community awareness, organize an event or raise funds for a needy program. Recent events have been a RunWell Addiction walk, a Child Abuse Awareness walk and a community Easter egg hunt to support Partners in Progress. Tioga and Bradford area agencies are appreciative of the time and terrific energy provided by Mansfield University Social Work students to make these events successful.”
The Macro Social Work Curricular Guide will be part of the EPAS Curricular Guide Resource Series, a group of booklets describing the knowledge, values, skills, and cognitive and affective processes that help define each of the nine social work competencies for specialized practice. The guide also will include curricular resources mapped to competency dimensions.
