Mill Cove Board of Directors Awarded Presidential Coin for Excellence

MANSFIELD, PA— The Board of Directors of the Mill Cove Environmental Center; Chairman Charlie Fox, Vice Chairman David Flesch (professor emeritus), Secretary Marilyn Jones and Treasurer Bruce Dart ’68, plus past board member Fred LaVancher have been awarded the Mansfield University Presidential Coin for Excellence by President Fran Hendricks.(L-R) Marilyn Jones, Bruce Dart, MU President FRan Hendricks, Charlie Fox. The presentation to Fox, Jones and Dart took place at Mill Cove’s annual meeting on June 21. Flesch received his coin on June 29. LaVancher will be formally presented with his coin at a later date.

“This group of leaders, with a great deal of help from their membership, have taken Mill Cove to the next level as an outstanding resource for our area,” Hendricks David Flesch and President Fran Hendricks.said. “Their efforts, plus the cooperative relationship they have helped develop with Mansfield University, makes them all very deserving of this honor.”

Mill Cove hosts a number of events involving University and area high school students and allows Mansfield faculty a site for hands on exploration and experimentation.

Mill Cove also hosts the national Youth Hunter Education Challenge (YHEC) every other summer and MU provides housing for the participants.

The coin was developed by Hendricks and designed by MU Senior Graphics Designer Andy Worthington. It is awarded selectively to persons who have distinguished themselves and the University through their accomplishments, using the Mansfield Creed; Character, Scholarship, Culture and Service as a guideline.

The coin bears several symbols representing historical highlights and other aspects of the university that make it distinctive.
