LUMA at Homecoming Set for September 29-October 1

MANSFIELD, PA— Alumni, family and friends will return to Mansfield University to celebrate Light Up Mansfield Again (LUMA) at Homecoming 2017 on September 29-October 1.  

The weekend, which marks the 125th anniversary of the world’s first night football game, features a full schedule of athletic events, concerts and activities.

Highlighting Friday’s schedule will be the Athletic Hall of Fame reception, dinner and induction ceremony beginning at 5:15 p.m. in the North Manser Dining Hall. Cost is $40 for adults, $10 for children, and reservations are required by September 19.

This year’s inductees are Freddie Coleman ’87 (football), Brian DeCecco ’05 (football), Coach Ethel Moser (field hockey), and the 1992 Baseball Team. Bernard “Bernie” Feldman ’37 (football and baseball) will enter the Hall of Fame as a Legend.  

Registration for Friday’s Homecoming golf tournament at Corey Creek Golf Club in available online. Play starts at 10 a.m. All proceeds from the tournament benefit MU athletic scholarships.

Saturday, the Homecoming and Mansfield Heritage Weekend parade will make its way up Main Street at 11:30 a.m.

On campus, there will be food, craft beer and retails vendors beginning at 1 p.m.

The MU women’s soccer team will take on California at Van Norman Field at 2 p.m.

At 4 p.m., country music star Devon Franks will perform in concert on Lutes Field.

The Mountaineers football team will take on Cornell University at 7:30 p.m. Pre-game activities, including the annual LUMA throwing of the switch will begin at 7 p.m.

At halftime the homecoming queen and king will be crowned and “The Spirit & the Pride of Pennsylvania” Mansfield University Marching Band will perform.

Tickets for the soccer and football games plus the Devon Franks concert are available online in advance. Presale tickets are $8 for adult and $3 for ages 17 and under. On the day of the games and concert, tickets are $10 for adult and $5 for ages 17 and under.

A Homecoming ticket gains you “come and go” access to Van Norman and Lutes Fields the entire day. All concert attendees must enter through the Van Norman Field main gate. MU students are free with valid ID.

MU branded wristbands will also be available at the gate for $5 each. A wristband is required for access to purchase alcohol from any craft beer vendor that will be located inside Van Norman Field. Valid ID is required. No presale for wristbands will be accepted.

The Department of Music will present two performances on the PRISM Concert, which is among the most popular events presented annually, during the weekend, Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in Steadman Theatre.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for senior citizens and $5 for students. Tickets can be ordered online at music.mansfield.edu or by phone at (570)662-4710. All proceeds from the concerts benefit the Music Department Scholarship Fund.  MU students with ID will be admitted free.

The weekend will also feature alumni baseball and softball games and a cross-country reunion, as well as other activities.

North Hall will be open 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on Friday, noon-5 p.m. on Saturday and 6-11 p.m. on Sunday.

The bookstore will be open 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday. Alumni receive a 20% discount on clothing and MU logo items.

The Kelchner Fitness Center will be open 6 a.m.-11 p.m. on Friday, 9 a.m.- 9 p.m. on Saturday, 2-10 p.m. on Sunday, and will be free to all alumni the entire weekend.
