MANSFIELD, PA—The Mansfield University leadership team, headed by Interim President Scott Barton, and the MU Chapter of the Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculties (APSCUF) announced on Tuesday, September 12 that they have agreed on a plan that will avert the retrenchment of faculty in the coming year.
The plan identifies savings and efficiencies through attrition and other opportunities that align faculty work and maintain Mansfield’s commitment to student success.
“Our goal as an administration has been to find a solution that allows us to maintain the quality of the education we offer our students while addressing the financial concerns we face as a university,” Barton said. “Today, thanks to the hard work and cooperation between the Cabinet and our campus APSCUF leadership, we have taken a major step forward toward that goal. I commend Dr. John Mansfield and his team for sharing our commitment to student success and working together to build a positive future for Mansfield University.”
“The faculty would like to thank the Mansfield University administration for working cooperatively with us,” Mansfield APSCUF President John Mansfield, said. “We look forward to putting our full attention to providing the best possible experience for our students and building a great future for Mansfield University.
A letter of possible retrenchment citing the potential of impact on faculty was issued to APSCUF on March 21, 2017, as required by the collective bargaining agreement between APSCUF and the Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education.
Today’s action removes that letter.
