Municipal Police Academy Graduates 34th Class

MANSFIELD, PA— Graduation ceremonies for the 34th Mansfield University Municipal Police Academy were held on October 14 in Straughn Hall. The Act 120 Academy Training Program is a required 754-hour course to obtain certification to be a municipal police officer in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.The following cadets were members of the graduating class and are now eligible to be certified as municipal police officers in Pennsylvania: Michael W. Bostwick (Sayre), Daniel S. Boyd (South Williamsport), Ryan D. Bratton (Renovo), Joseph M. Bucek IV (Millersville), Michael A. Bucek (Millersville), Daniel P. Bump (Athens), Richard W. Camerer (Jersey Shore), Christopher M. Gnall (Taylor), Tyler D. Herbster (Beavertown), Kieran M. Hermann (Auburn, NY), Derek H. Hoke (Selingsgrove), Briar W. Jenkins (Troy), Sarah A. Kinney (Nottingham), Shyanne E. McKivison (Jersey Shore), Zachary T. Mosso (Linden), Matthew R. Santiago (Towanda), Casey C. Shiposh (Ulster), Jared I. Smith (Rome), Jonathon W. Smith-Baker (Tioga), Seth R. M. Stropp (Jersey Shore), Kyle L. Thorpe (Mansfield), Christopher R. Warren (Ridgebury) and Marcus A. Watkins (Columbia Cross Roads, PA).

It was announced at the ceremony that the individual awards earned during training have now been named in honor of former directors of the Academy.

The Keith Graver Basic Firearms Award was presented to Michael Bucek. Shyanne McKivison received the James Fox Emergency Driving Operations Award. The Christine Shegan Academic Standards Award recipient was Kieran Hermann. Hermann also earned the Barbara Butcher Physical Standards Award. He also served as the class representative and spoke on behalf of the graduates.

Tioga County Commissioner Erick Coolidge was the guest speaker.  The Tioga County Commissioners were also recognized for their continued support of the Academy.

Mansfield University Interim President Scott Barton and Academy Director Scott Henry presented diplomas to the graduates.

The graduating class presented Roxy LeBlanc, Academy clerk, with a plaque in appreciation for all her work and support during their training.

The required curriculum included training in laws and procedures, motor vehicle law and collision investigation, criminal investigation, crisis management, emergency vehicle operations, physical training, first aid and CPR, defensive tactics and firearms.
