President Hendricks Receives Contract Extension

MANSFIELD, PA—The Pennsylvania State System of HigherMU President Fran Hendricks Education’s (PASSHE) Board of Governors has extended the contract of Mansfield University President Fran Hendricks and nine other PASSHE University presidents through June 30, 2017.

The action came at the Board of Governors meeting on Tuesday, July 8 in Harrisburg.

The Board of Governors is responsible for the employment of the 14 PASSHE University presidents. The decision whether to renew a president’s contract is made annually, based on the recommendations of each University’s Council of Trustees and PASSHE Chancellor Frank T. Brogan.

The Mansfield Council of Trustees unanimously recommended Hendricks receive a contract extension.

Hendricks, a 1979 Mansfield graduate, assumed the MU presidency on May 28, 2013. He retired as a Brigadier General in the Air Force after 34 years of service to return to his alma mater.

PASSHE university presidents initially receive a three-year “rolling contract,” which is subject to annual review. As a result of that performance-based review, a president’s contract can be extended by a year.

California, Cheyney, Kutztown and Shippensburg Universities are all being led by acting or interim presidents, who usually serve until a permanent president is hired.
