MANSFIELD, PA— Mansfield University President Fran Hendricks was among the guest readers and presenters at the Mansfield Summer Reading Camp at Warren L. Miller Elementary School in Mansfield on Thursday, July 17.
Hendricks and other community members volunteered their time to read books, talk about their work and how important reading is to it, and give demonstrations to the 38 elementary school age campers, who range from first through sixth grade and come from several Northern Tier school districts.
The four-week camp promotes “fun and learning” with books, surprises, special events, activities and games. Students are taught reading attitudes, skills and strategies through small group learning activities. This year’s theme is “Imagination Vacation: Take a Trip through Reading!”The camp is facilitated by the MU Education and Special Education Department, directed by Assistant Professor Michele Moore, and taught by Mansfield graduate students.
