MANSFIELD, PA— A group of Mansfield University junior and senior Chemistry students attended the Scholes Lecture and Poster Session at Alfred University, NY on April 18.
The April meeting of the Corning Section of the American Chemical Society is the highlight monthly meeting of the year, combining student research presentations, Outstanding Senior Awards and a nationally recognized speaker along with a banquet.
The evening began with the poster session showcasing research efforts by undergraduates from colleges and universities in the Corning Section, including Mansfield University, Elmira College and Alfred University.
Nicole Wynne, senior Chemistry (Biochemistry concentration) major and Chris Haines, junior Chemistry major at Mansfield, showcased their research during a poster session prior to the banquet. Wynne’s poster was recognized as one of the top three of all of those presented at the session.
After the banquet, seniors from the colleges and universities were recognized as the outstanding chemistry graduates from their schools. Wynne was recognized during the ceremony as the awardee from Mansfield University and the recipient of a book award.
Following the awards ceremony, the students heard an address from Dr. Guy Crosby of Harvard University, entitled, “Chemistry in the Kitchen.”
The MU students were accompanied by Professor Scott A. Davis, chair of the Chemistry and Physics Department, Associate Professor of Chemistry Anthony Kiessling and Assistant Professor of Biology Kristen Long.
