MANSFIELD PA – The Mansfield University Music Department will present the annual holiday choral concerts in Steadman Theatre on December 1 at 7:30 pm and Dec. 2 at 2:30 pm. More than 130 singers and instrumentalists in the Women’s Chorus, Men’s Chorus, Festival Chorus, Chamber Singers, and the Concert Choir will take part. Peggy Dettwiler, producer and director, has programmed music from the historical classics to popular songs that celebrate the seasons of Christmas and Hanukkah.
The title for the two concerts is “Good Will to All” offering the opportunity for music composed down through the ages and from around the world about peace and good will. The program includes a chorus from Handel’s “Messiah,” two beautiful Renaissance motets, a lively Mexican Baroque selection, and Gospel anthems. The finale will unite all of the choirs in singing “The Dream Isaiah Saw” by Glenn Rudolph with organ, brass, and percussion. The united voices always provide a powerful ending to these celebrative December performances. The audience will have the opportunity to enjoy singing familiar holiday carols with organ accompaniment by MU alumnus, Vincent Lawrence. A winter village backdrop will set the stage for a lovely evening.
