MANSFIELD, PA (09/21/2022) Mansfield, part of Commonwealth University, has
earned several rankings in the 38th annual U.S. News & World Report (USNWR)
“Best College” rankings.
Mansfield, grouped among institutions in the “Baccalaureate Colleges:
Diverse Fields” (a Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher
Education) is number nine in Top Public Schools in the North, ranked 15th out
of 54 Regional Colleges in the North, and number 27 on Social Mobility.
Rankings for Top Public Schools is based on public colleges and universities
that typically operate under the supervision of state governments and are
funded, in part, by tax dollars and subsidies from the state. Rankings for
Regional Colleges are based on colleges or universities that focus on
undergraduate education but grant fewer than half their degrees in liberal arts
disciplines.
A newer category, “Social Mobility,” which USNWR debuted in 2019,
is based on colleges that are more successful than others at advancing social
mobility by enrolling and graduating large proportions of students awarded with
Pell Grants. The vast majority of these federal grants are awarded to students
whose adjusted gross family incomes are under $50,000.
“The rankings for Mansfield clearly demonstrate the quality of our
academic offerings, as well as the great value that our students receive while
studying here,” said Bashar W. Hanna, president of Commonwealth
University. “I am very proud of our students, faculty, and staff, who have
all worked hard to achieve this recognition.”
In the US News & World Report, of the 63 Top Public schools, Lock Haven
is number 38, while Bloomsburg is ranked number 45 in schools of similar size
and classification.
Under the banner of Commonwealth University, Bloomsburg, classified by
Carnegie as “Master’s Colleges & Universities: Larger Programs,”
and Lock Haven, classified as “Master’s Colleges & Universities:
Medium Programs,” students and parents now have three distinct choices
when making a decision on where to continue their academic careers.
Hanna continued. “As we move forward with the integration of Mansfield,
Bloomsburg, and Lock Haven, under the banner of Commonwealth University, the
“Power of Three” will only strengthen our academics and bring even
greater opportunities for students and the workforce in our region. We are
clearly making a difference in the lives our students and changing forever the
trajectory of families for generations to come.”
