Poet Cameron Conaway to Visit March 26

MANSFIELD, PAPoet Cameron Conaway will present “Malaria, Cameron ConawayPoems” on Thursday, March 26, 4 p.m. at Allen Hall, Room 104. The presentation is free and open to the public.

The first poet-in-residence at Mahidol Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit in Bangkok, Conaway has served as executive editor at GoodMenProject.com. He is a former MMA fighter and an award-winning poet. Currently teaching at Penn State Brandywine, Conaway is a Pennsylvania native.     

In the book and his presentation, Conaway testifies to the importance of bridging the chasm between science and art. He Cameron Conaway-malaria coverraises awareness of a disease that kills almost one million people each year and sickens millions more.

In naming the book one of the five best poetry books on 2014, NPR’s review said, “When a collection like Malaria, Poems comes along, the world must take notice.”

Copies of Conaway’s book will be available for sale after his presentation.

Also while at MU, Conaway will visit Professor Lilace Guignard’s women’s studies class and poetry writing classes.
