Alumni Weekend 2015

MANSFIELD, PA—More than 400 alumni, family and friends returned to Mansfield University for Alumni Weekend 2015 on June 12-13.Class of '65The Class of 1965, celebrating its 50th anniversary, was this year’s honored guests for alumni weekend. Twenty two members of the class returned to MU and were recognized, along with all classes with years ending in five and zero, retired faculty, administrators and staff. The Class of ’65 endowed a scholarship fund as a special gift to the University.(L-R) Honors Committee Chair Sharon Mokrzynski Kendrick '81, Mark DiRicco '78, Christopher Johannessen '90 and MU President Fran Hendricks '79. Barbara King '78 and Sheri Beam '71 were unable to attend the Society of Honors induction.

Also honored at the luncheon were this year’s Society of Honors award winners. Barbara King ’78 was presented with the Elsie Burke Service Award. Sheri Beam ’71 received the Alumni Citation Award. Christopher Johannessen ’90 was named this year’s Outstanding Young Alumni. The Distinguished Educator Award was presented to Mark DiRocco ’78.       

“Welcome to all and welcome home,” MU President Fran Hendricks, a 1979 graduate, said. “This is and your weekend and your university.”  

An added feature to this year’s festivities was the first annual “Mansfield Mergers.”Sponsored by the Alumni Association and the Mansfield University Foundation, more than 40 couples who met at Mansfield renewed their wedding vows in a ceremony held in North Hall. The Honorable Richard Cashman, a 1975 graduate and district justice in Columbia County District Court in Berwick, PA, officiated the ceremony. Plans are for this to be a part of every Alumni Weekend in the future.The couples who renewed their vows in the first "Mansfield Mergers."To see video of the ceremony, click here.

The weekend also featured tours of campus, events for alumni of Greek organizations, an alumni golf tournament at Corey Creek Golf Club, which serves as a fundraiser for athletic scholarships, an ice cream social hosted by President Hendricks and his wife Connie, and several other social events, which offered opportunities to renew acquaintances and make news ones.
