Communication Major’s Internship Includes On-Air TV Reporting

MANSFIELD, PA— Cody Carlson, a senior in Mass Communication: Electronic Media atCody Carlson on WENY-TV Mansfield University, made his on-air reporting debut at WENY-TV in Elmira, NY on September 17 as part of his internship at the station.

Carlson, a native of Elmira was offered an internship by WENY News Director and Anchor Renata Stiehl, a Mansfield 2004 graduate, shortly after they met at a COM Day event that the Department of Communication hosts each year.

“I’m extremely grateful for the opportunities that have been presented to me,” Carlson said. “Without the help of the professors, my advisor and alum Renata Stiehl, this wouldn’t be possible. Thank you to everybody who has supported me with my internship.”

“He did such a great job today, we are so happy to have him,” Stiehl said via Twitter after Carlson’s debut.

“Cody began his on-air appearances as a sportscaster and anchor on MUTV, and as one of the original anchors in the MU60 video news blasts produced every week by students in the Department of Communication,” Sue Young, department chair and internship coordinator, said. “Our faculty, staff, and students look forward to his continued success. We are so thankful for our many alums who actively help our students and who continue to contribute to our department.”

Carlson will continue his internship though the fall semester and then graduates in December.
