Concert Choir is Finalist for National Honor

MANSFIELD, PA— The Mansfield University Concert Choir is one of eight finalists nationwide for The American Prize 2015 in choral performance, college/university division. The Choir won the award in 2011.MU Concert Choir perforning at Susquehanna University.The Concert Choir, directed by Peggy Dettwiler, MU director of Choral Activities, was selected from applications reviewed this summer from all across the U.S.

The American Prize is a series of new, non-profit, competitions unique in scope and structure, designed to recognize and reward the best performing artists, ensembles and composers in the U.S. based on submitted recordings. The American Prize was founded in 2009 and is awarded annually in many areas of the performing arts.

The MU Concert Choir has contributed significantly to Mansfield’s reputation of musical excellence. The group has traveled throughout the region and performed in seventeen European countries accumulating a vast array of prizes, including nine gold medals in choral Olympic competition. The choir made their Carnegie Hall debut in January of 2014.

The singers are committed to communicating their love of choral music and are frequently praised for the emotional spectrum in their performances, their diverse vocal color and their varied repertoire.
