MANSFIELD, PA— Mansfield University has joined with the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) in support of Governor Tom Wolf’s “It’s On Us PA” initiative designed to raise awareness of and to prevent sexual violence.
“We applaud Gov. Wolf for calling even greater attention to this vitally important issue—one that our 14 universities have been working hard to address,” PASSHE Chancellor Frank T. Brogan said. “We support the Governor’s ‘It’s On Us PA’ initiative and look forward to working with him and his administration to continue to raise awareness of and to increase efforts to prevent campus sexual violence. Most important, we remain committed to the fight against sexual violence so that no one becomes a victim to this terrible crime in the future.”
Mansfield President Fran Hendricks was at the Governor’s announcement on January 29 in Harrisburg and echoed Chancellor Brogan’s thoughts on the initiative.
“Mansfield University fully supports Governor Wolf in this effort,” he said. “We’re proud to partner with PASSHE in the effort to educate our students, faculty and staff on prevention and reporting mechanisms. Sexual violence is a national problem that requires both national and local attention. At Mansfield University, we are committed to student safety and to playing an active role in this problem’s solution.”
Mansfield has participated in the “It’s On Us” program since the White House first released the initiative in 2014.
MU is also addressing the issue of sexual violence in a variety of additional ways. Among them are employee and student education sessions–including making the sessions a part of orientation and the students First Year Seminar, awareness and prevention programming and educational outreach and making these efforts part of the university Title IX communication plan.
