MANSFIELD, PA— Mansfield University Social Work students are 
collecting non-perishable food items and toiletries to restock the Salvation Army Food Pantry in Elmira.
All donations are welcome, but there is a high need of canned fruit, box macaroni and cheese, soup, juice and cereal.
Collection boxes have been placed in Pinecrest, Manser, Alumni and South Halls on the MU campus. The drive will run through April 25.
Donations also can always be taken directly to the Salvation Army at 414 Lake Street in Elmira, Monday through Friday, 9-11:50 a.m. and 1-2:50 p.m.
The Salvation Army Food Pantry in Elmira assists more than 800 families each month. While they do receive some small grants, the donations are the primary means the Salvation Army provides for their clients.
“This food pantry is one of the biggest pantries in Chemung County, MU Social Work major Haleigh Morton said. “With all the clientele and small number of donations, the Salvation Army struggles to provide for all the clients in their area which are in need. By collecting and donating food to the agency we hope to give the pantry at least five pounds of food and help them to give more to the people in need.”
