MANSFIELD, PA—Mansfield University will celebrate the renovation and reopening of Straughn Hall with a weekend-long grand reopening gala April 29-May 1. The weekend will also mark the 50th anniversary of the Mansfield University Concert Choir.
The MU Concert Wind Ensemble, directed by Adam Brennan, will perform in Straughn Hall on Friday, April 29 at 7:30 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public.
Saturday, April 30 at 8 p.m. in Steadman Theatre, this year’s MU Concert Choir, conducted by Peggy Dettwiler, will perform. This concert is free and open to the public.
This will be the Concert Choir’s “home concert,” as they perform the program that won rave reviews during their spring break tour of the Midwest.
On Sunday, May 1 at 2:30 p.m., the Alumni and Concert Choir Gala Concert will take to the Straughn Hall Stage. One hundred and forty MU Concert Choir alumni have registered to return to celebrate the group’s golden anniversary.
The program will feature both the current Concert Choir and the Alumni Choir performing separately and as a 200-voice combined choir to celebrate the anniversary in grand style.
Tickets are $10, $5 with MU ID. There is also a $50 admission package that includes a contribution to a scholarship fund.

There will be a Gala reception after Sunday’s concert on the lawn in front of Memorial Hall.
Straughn Hall, built in 1930, was closed for more a year for a complete renovation that incorporated state-of-the-art upgrades to the infrastructure while maintaining the classic appearance and ambience of the building.
