MU to Host Series of Events for Red Flag Campaign

MANSFIELD, PA— Mansfield University will hold a series of events in October in support of The Red Flag red-flagCampaign, a public awareness initiative designed to address dating violence, sexual assault and stalking and how to prevent them on college campuses.

Designed as a “bystander intervention” strategy, the campaign encourages friends and other campus community members to “say something” when they see warning signs (“red flags”) for dating violence in a friend’s relationship. The campaign was started by the Virginia Sexual and Domestic Violence Action Alliance in 2005 and has spread to campuses across the country.

On Monday, October 3, Red Flags will be placed on the Student Mall from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Wednesday, October 5, a presentation entitled “The Bystander Effect” will be held at 6 p.m. in Alumni Hall, Room 307. Frank Crofchick, MU associate director of Student Life, will lead this engaging session where participates will learn how to intervene in difficult situations.

The MU Counseling Center Staff will lead a conversation about “Dating 2017” on Thursday, October 6, 7 p.m. in the Hickory Hall Multi-Purpose Room. Ice cream sundaes will also be served.

On Monday, October 10, 6 p.m. in Alumni Hall, Room 307, the CNN documentary The Hunting Ground will be shown.  A panel discussion will follow the screening.
