MANSFIELD, PA– Alumni, family and friends will return to Mansfield University to celebrate Homecoming 2016 on October 14-15. This year’s theme is “Family. Legacy. Tradition!” The weekend will also mark the official celebration of Mansfield’s 125-year football history.
Highlighting Friday’s schedule will be the Athletic Hall of Fame reception, dinner and induction ceremony beginning at 5:15 p.m. in the North Manser Dining Hall. Cost is $30 for adults, $12 for children, and reservations are required.
This year’s inductees are Richard “Riki” Kimble ’89, Patricia Masters O’Neill ’91, Scott Setzer ’96 and Robert “Bobby” Widhson ’76.
Registration for Friday’s Homecoming golf tournament at Corey Creek Golf Club is available online. At the course, registration begins at 8 a.m. and play starts at 9 a.m. All proceeds from the tournament benefit MU athletic scholarships.
The Department of Music will present two performances on the PRISM Concert, which is among the most popular events presented annually, on Friday and Saturday, 7:30 p.m. in Steadman Theatre.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for senior citizens and $5 for children 12 years old and younger. Tickets can be ordered online at music.mansfield.edu or by phone at (570)662-4710. All proceeds from the concerts benefit the Music Department Scholarship Fund. MU students with ID will be admitted free.
Friday from 5-8 p.m., there will be a gathering of Political Science alumni at Chango’s Cantina in Mansfield.
Saturday, the Homecoming parade will make its way up Main Street at 10:30 a.m.
The alumni tailgate, featuring food and refreshments, will take place from noon -2 p.m. in front of the Water Tower. Cost is $10 per person.
Also from noon-2 p.m., football alumni will gather at Karl Van Norman for their own tailgate celebration. The 125th Anniversary Banquet will be held in North Manser Hall at 5 p.m.
The Mountaineers football team will take on Franklin Pierce University at 2 p.m.
Before the game, the Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2016 will be introduced to the crowd. At halftime the homecoming queen and king will be crowned and “The Spirit & the Pride of Pennsylvania” Mansfield University Marching Band will perform.
The alumni baseball game will be held at 3 p.m. at Shaute field.
The MU Symphony Orchestra and Concert Wind Ensemble will perform on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in Steadman Theatre. The concert is free and open to the public
North Hall will be open 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on Friday, noon-5 p.m. on Saturday and 6-11 p.m. on Sunday.
The bookstore will be open 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday. Alumni receive a 20% discount on clothing and MU logo items.
The Kelchner Fitness Center will be open 6 a.m.-11 p.m. on Friday, 9 a.m.- 9 p.m. on Saturday, 2-10 p.m. on Sunday, and will be free to all alumni the entire weekend.
