Annual Senior Transitions Conference Held

MANSFIELD, PA— The fourth annual Senior Transitions Conference was held at the Best Western Country Cupboard Inn in Lewisburg, PA on November 12.Some of the Mansfield students who attended the Senior Transitions Conference. the A collaborative venture of career centers from six Pennsylvania colleges and universities; Mansfield University, East Stroudsburg University, Lock Haven University, Millersville University, Lycoming College and Penn State Harrisburg, the Senior Transitions Conference is designed to provide students with the necessary skills for a successful transition from college to career.

Students heard from a variety of speakers on topics such as negotiating a job offer, personal budgeting, job searching, interviewing, understanding the student loan repayment process, graduate school and service opportunities.

The conference opened with keynote speaker Albert Keynote speaker Albert Jones talks with students at lunch.Jones, director of Human Resources with First Quality Products whose powerful presentation “All the Way: Nothing Can Stop You…But You!!” left students realizing that they control their own reality and choices made now can have an immense impact on the rest of their lives.

“This conference is an awesome experience for the students that participate,” Jones said. “The attending students are able to obtain direct exposure with company representatives and solicit advice on how to successfully transition from the ‘college world’ to the ‘real world’ upon graduation. This conference plays a crucial part in the overarching goal of universities being charged with producing graduating student that are prepared to change the world. It supports that goal by preparing students to take on the challenge of life after college and begin working towards success in whatever career path the students choose to pursue.”web-stc-3

“I am really glad I had the opportunity to attend the Senior Conference. I honestly feel a lot better about transitioning into the real world after graduation in December,” Mansfield senior Samantha Boas, a Criminal Justice Administration major, said. “If I could give any advice to upcoming seniors I would say attend the conference because it is very beneficial.”

“The conference was such a great opportunity to speak to professionals in the field,” Eric Moody, a senior Mass Communication: Electronic Media major at MU, said. “I received great insight on what it takes to succeed at the next level.”
