MANSFIELD, PA— John Ulrich, dean of the College of Arts and Humanities at Mansfield University, presented his paper, “Teaching-Intensive Tenure-Track Positions: The View from a Teaching-Intensive Institution,” at the 2017 Modern Language Association Convention in Philadelphia, PA on January 5.
Ulrich’s paper was part of a panel devoted to issues regarding tenure, “teaching-intensive” positions and the working conditions of contingent faculty.
The other speaker on the panel was Bob Samuels, who teaches at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and is the president of UC-AFT, the union in the University of California system that represents contingent faculty. His paper was entitled “Is Tenure an Individual Right or a Collective Protection?”
