MANSFIELD, PA—The Mansfield University Concert Choir, under the direction of Peggy Dettwiler, will give their final performance of the academic year on Saturday, May 3, at 7:30 p.m. in Steadman Theatre. The concert is free and open to the public.
The choir’s program will feature their entire repertoire for the upcoming eighth World Choir Games.
The MU choir will participate in three separate categories in Riga, Latvia, singing four different selections in each: Mixed Youth Choir, Sacred Music with Accompaniment and Spirituals. Their repertoire was selected according to specific guidelines and not to exceed a certain number of minutes.
The Mixed Youth Choir portion of the program will feature Ecco Mormorar L’onde, When David Heard, How Can I Keep from Singing and El Guayaboso.
The Sacred Music with accompaniment program will include Sing Joyfully, Ave Maria, Beati Quorum Via and Clap Praise.
The Spiritual program will feature My God Is a Rock, The Battle of Jericho, Nobody Knows the Trouble I’ve Seen and Ezekiel Saw de Wheel.
Also at their May 3 performance, the Concert Choir will perform the Gitanjali Chants by Craig Hella Johnson and Beethoven’s Hallelujah from The Mount of Olives. Vicki Fensterbush, who is completing her MA in Music Degree in the Choral Conducting track, will lead the choir on two of the selections.
The concert will be recorded live for CD production by Mark Records of Clarence, NY.
The Concert Choir will depart for Europe on June 30, making stops in Lübeck and Berlin, Germany, Warsaw, Poland and Vilnius, Lithuania before arriving in Riga, Latvia, for the World Choir Games beginning on July 9.
The Games bring thousands of singers from around the world together. Currently, 485 choirs from 59 countries are registered to compete.
