The Big Event Brings MU Students Out in Force

MANSFIELD, PA— The Big Event, Mansfield University’s annual day-long community service project, brought 363 Mansfield University students, along with staff, faculty and community members, out in force on Saturday, April 22. They completed more than 1.450 hours of community service work on a wide variety of projects.Big Event 1“Today we get to do something special for our community,” MU President Fran Hendricks told the students before they headed out on their assignments. “Through your efforts I hope that you will inspire others to see the meaning of service.”

The volunteers completed projects in the Mansfield and Wellsboro area including cleaning streets and trails, parks and along highways in the Mansfield area.

Big Event 2They also helped at HAVEN of Tioga County, Animal Care Sanctuary, Mill Cove Environmental Area, a chicken barbeque held by the Mansfield University Student Veterans Organization, accepted students day on campus and many other places.

“I could not be prouder to be a Mountie,” Frank Crofchick, MU dean of Students and Big Event coordinator, said. “This is not just about our university, this is about a family, the Mansfield family, and I could not be more proud of all of you.”

In addition to the students, Crofchick credits the Student Government Association (SGA), his co-workers and student-workers, Shelby Bartlett in particular, and the Community Service Club for making The Big Event a success.
