MANSFIELD, PA—Richard Cashman, Senior Magisterial District Judge for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and a 1975 Mansfield graduate, will be the speaker at Mansfield University’s 152nd Commencement on Saturday, May 13, at 11 a.m. at Karl Van Norman Field.
“Dick Cashman is a leader and a true Mansfield success story,” MU President Fran Hendricks said in making the announcement. “His story of service, commitment and dedication is one we want our newest graduates to hear. We are honored to welcome Judge Cashman back to campus to speak at Commencement.”
From 1987-2009 Cashman served as a District Judge in Columbia County District Court. During that time he heard more than 125,000 cases and received an exemplary rating for fiscal management of the district court.
Prior to being appointed to the bench, Cashman served as a field auditor and audit supervisor for the Pennsylvania Department of the Auditor General. He has been professionally recognized for his work by the Department of Revenue and the Department of the Auditor General in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as well as by U.S. Attorney, Middle District of Pennsylvania.
Cashman served on the Mansfield University Council of Trustees from 2003-2013. In addition, he has shown his leadership skills in several other roles at the local, regional and statewide level.
Cashman and the late Linda Lake Cashman, a 1974 Mansfield graduate, were married for 29 years. They have two daughters Christine Cashman (Program Coordinator for the National Association of State Directors of Special Education, Inc.) and Colleen Cashman Bitner (Anne Arundel County Public Schools in Maryland).
