Employees Honored for Service and Dedication

MANSFIELD, PA— The annual Mansfield University Service Recognition Celebration was held on Tuesday, April 25.

Employees who have served MU for 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 45 years were honored. Faculty were recognized by academic year. People who have retired or will be retiring through summer 2017 were also recognized.

The following individuals were honored:

Ten years: Martha Campbell Amy DeLozier, Jennifer Demchak, Donna Lee-Brown, Billie Sue Morgan, Richard Nelson, Andrew Walters, James Welch

Fifteen Years: Fanny Arango-Keeth, Belinda Bernum, Gregory Carson, Leslie Clifford, Timothy Dempsey, Matthew Haner, Shawndra Holderby, Daniel Mason, Lisa Parker, Michael Rohl, Michelle Rohl, Melanie Seymour, Ryan Stanley, John Szentesy

Twenty Years: Laurie Buck, Paul DeLosa, Mark Hitsman, Monica Miller, Brian Oakes Christine Shegan, Gregori Zagozewski

Also at the recognition event, Gretchen Sechrist, MU President Fran Hendricks presents the Employee of the Year Award to Gretchen Sechrist.associate professor and chair of the Psychology Department, was named Employee of the Year.

The Employee Recognition Committee selected Sechrist after a campus-wide nomination process.

Among the comments made on the nominations she received were, “She proves exemplary leadership chairing several committees…She coordinates the annual scholarship showcase…She will go out of her way to ensure that people are treated fairly…She works hard with at-risk students, not just to keep them here but to ensure they are receiving a quality education…Gretchen is a strong champion of diversity and is involved with Special Olympics and the local schools.”

Robin Colby, Athletics; Jannis Floyd, Education and Special Education; Wanda Labar, Psychology; John Mansfield, Social Work; Nanci Werner-Burke, Education and Special Education; Stephen Wasilewski, Housing, Dining and Campus Life; Kathy Wright, Health Sciences, and Dusty Zeyn, Housing, Facilities, were also finalists for the honor.

The Department of Student Life and Living (SLL) received the Spotlight Award, which is given annually to a department that exemplifies the four facets of the Mansfield Creed: Character, Scholarship, Culture and Service. The winner was decided after a campus-wide nomination process.Department of Student Life and Living received the Spotlight Award.Among the comments in the nomination were, “This department has been through many changes, yet through it all they have been gracious, hardworking and one hundred percent supportive of the Mansfield University mission of student success…SLL is here long after the ‘regular’ workday ends, often supporting events that create culture for our students.”

The Department staff during this academic year consists of Frank Crofchick, Donna Miner, Ruth Hermansen, Jackie Johnson, Mary Beth Kollar, Amy DeLozier, Mike Stamp, Steven Wasilewski, Dave Slampak, Jackaleen Lundgren, Lynn Johnson, Bonnie Phelps, Dusty Zeyn, Allyson Woodley, Vince Nance, Allix Harrington and Aric Werkheiser.

The Deans’ Award for Outstanding Teaching was presented to Jeffrey Bosworth, professor of Political Science and chair of the History, Philosophy and Political Science Department.

Tiffany Welch, Social Work Program director and chair of the Department of Social Work and Sociology, was honored with the Deans’ Award for Outstanding Academic Advising.

MU Music students provided musical accompaniment during the luncheon.

The Service Recognition program was facilitated by the Human Resources Department.
